Body Psychotherapist
"In my own practice, I love the experience of facilitating and witnessing others gain self-awareness and self-empowerment as they move through the process of making distinctions and deepening their connections with their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual selves." ---Cindy Foss
“The Clinical membership is for those who are practicing body psychotherapists and have the following qualifications: […] certification from a recognized body psychotherapy training program and training in formal principles of psychotherapy.” “Eligibility for Clinical membership has two key elements: psychotherapy training and body psychotherapy training.”
“[…] The training in and experiencing of a specific body psychotherapy modality or method is one of the most important criterion according to many body psychotherapists.” ---United States Association of Body Psychotherapy
I successfully completed all the requirements in the 3-year Unergi Body-Psychotherapy Professional Training and graduated with a certificate in Unergi Body-Psychotherapy.
The intent of this training was to learn from the inside out, incorporating the body with the here-and-now experience. Though I entered into this training to become a body-psychotherapist, the exercises I participated in led by Alexander teachers and Feldenkrais teachers designed to create awareness in self and awareness of other, brought profound healing into my body, mind and spirit. Ute Arnold, founder of Unergi, would lead us into creative artistic expression and exercises in nature that we would later process with Gestalt dialog. These experiences as a student and years ago as a client showed me that Gestalt Theory is extremely valuable in the healing process.
A life-long commitment to self-care as a practitioner is critical and I enthusiastically continue to enhance my certification with more advanced Gestalt Training with a theory and practice group created by Gestalt Therapist, Nancy Bristol, MSW, LCSW, DCSW. I am also working with Roberta Pugh in on going studies in Gestalt Therapy who is a certified Gestalt Psychotherapist, Faculty Trainer with the Gestalt Center of New Jersey, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I participate in Feldenkrais and Cranio-Sacral workshops, and also receive massages, reiki sessions and private lessons in Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique.
"I had a profound experience working with Cindy. She assisted me in shifting a very old pattern of energy in my life. She listened to and acknowledged me in ways that let me know that she does her own internal work. I felt safe with her and finally free after our work together. Is there any greater gift?" ---Celeste J. Ross, Feldenkrais Teacher and CranioSacral Practitioner
"Cindy and I met as students in Unergi. During our training together, I admired her natural ability in absorbing and applying Gestalt theory. I also had the privilege to observe her deep love for the essence of Unergi as expressed by her personal courage and contagious enthusiasm." ---- Dianne Stachowski, MSN, RN, CS, Graduate of Gestalt Therapy Institute of Philadelphia & Unergi Body-Psychotherapy
Reiki Master
“I love witnessing the transformation that occurs after someone receives a Reiki session. I see them come in stressed and become renewed and refreshed." ---- Cindy Foss
I became attuned and certified as a Reiki Master in the Unlimited "White Light" Reiki System of Natural Healing under Reiki Master Maureen Sauvigne David. My philosophy is self care for myself and for my clients. It remains a valuable tool even after achieving a sense of balance because life continues to present us with challenges.
“Cindy, once again, thanks for everything including the wonderful Reiki. You really have a gift and I'm so blessed to be in your 'hands'. You have a huge warm heart and keen insight. Love, M.E." ---- A 60 year old client, cancer survivor, and recipient of long distance Reiki
Co-Founder of The Suppers Programs, a non-profit organization.
"Cindy and I first met in 2004. I had only a program design and a concept. It was Cindy who brought the program alive by volunteering to work it all through. This was huge for me. Her ability to stick with the uncomfortable until clarity emerged was particularly useful in creating what we called ‘nutritional harm reduction’, a gentle way to make dietary changes more enjoyable and sustainable. Cindy now mentors others on their paths to clarity and gently reminds us never to lose sight of the role of the physical body and the physical brain, the terrain of all experience." ---- Dorothy Mullen, Garden Educator, Lifestyle Counselor, Founder of The Suppers Programs, Inc.
